Dementia-friendly communities aim to create an environment where people with dementia are supported to continue to participate in their local community.
Dementia Friendly Communities bring people together (“if we get it right for people with dementia we get it right for everybody”).
Would you like to help your Tweeddale Community become more Dementia Friendly by:
- Learning more about dementia and how it impacts our daily lives? link to examples, research sites, social media, word of mouth
- Talking to your families and friends and exchanging stories?
- Joining in Inclusive activities – participating, attending, enabling others to join you?
- Volunteering and Supporting either on a one–to-one basis or in an inclusive group?
- Ask wherever you are in a group if this is a dementia friendly group and take the conversation to wherever you need to leave a seed of knowledge.
- Practise what you preach by looking out for people in the street or among your neighbours in case they need help.
- Do you know anyone with dementia? Don’t impose yourself on them- it takes away their power. Just treat them as you would a friend until it is obvious that they could do with a little help. They still need respect and validation.
These are all ways to help Tweeddale become a Dementia Friendly Community.
