Dementia Friendly Tweeddale also runs regular Dementia Friends courses with Alzheimer Scotland Borders who come to us to run the 1 hour long course which iinvolves no writing, it just seems like a game. But you learn a lot by doing  and realising. These sessions are good fun and highly recommended.

Afterwards you get a badge and a certificate to say “I am a Dementia Friend”.

This is your first step to being eligible to be a trusted volunteer and supporter in our Dementia Friendly Community.

Why not tell your work colleagues and club together to arrange a session in your work place – with your boss’s permission of course.

Or at a club that you belong to – how to adapt a dementia friend training course to suit that environment, so that a person living with dementia who wanted to join would feel everyone there understood.

Gradually each group becomes Dementia Friendly and joins up with other Dementia Friendly groups. Whole attitudes change to include persons living with dementia in normal community life in a kind, patient and tolerant way.

We can spread out our friendships through other Tweeddale communities and recognise that we are all on the same side – hence we reach our goal of a Dementia Friendly Tweeddale.
