The number of people living with dementia is on the rise and increases as we live longer.

Most people over 65 agree that their worst fear about their older age is getting dementia.

There are some quite shocking statistics about Dementia on this with some tips for its possible prevention and comparisons with other old-age diseases that show Dementia is the leading cause of death of people over 65.

Currently there is no cure for dementia, but research is  going on all the time and we must never give up hope.

Everyone’s dementia experience is different, just as everyone’s personality is different. Each individual person must feel that they matter.

Our ultimate aim is to create a Dementia Meeting Centre for Tweeddale, in Peebles, the county town. When we achieve this, it will be the first in the Scottish Borders.

DFT works with the Tweeddale community to help everyone understand the challenges that can be encountered by people with dementia, their friends and family.

DFT is improving communications between existing support organisations in Tweeddale and those who need them, to become Dementia Friendly.

Meanwhile for those who are living with it we should be taking care of them in our own communities and providing the necessary facilities for persons living with dementia to feel welcome, accepted, safe and comfortable.
