If we get the diagnosis, it can be devastating, but let us dispel the myths about our lives ending.
There are many years of positive, active participation in our communities. Many people discover new skills and hobbies that interest them. And sometimes they find they can do things they never imagined possible for them.
Much better news is that dementia doesn’t have to stop us enjoying life. Author and blogger Wendy Mitchell, who lived with dementia for more than 10 years said:
“When people hear the word ‘dementia’ they forget there’s a beginning and automatically think of the end. There’s so much life still to be lived, albeit differently and with lots of support.”
Wendy was a Dementia Activist.
